The Karstensen yard in Skagen is putting the finishing touches to the new Hákon ThH-250, the latest pelagic vessel to be delivered to Icelandic owners.
The customer is Gjögur hf, which operates in both pelagic and demersal sectors. This newbuild is an RSW-equipped purser-trawler, replacing the previous Hákon which was built for Gjögur as a combination vessel with both RSW and freezing capacity at the Asmar yard in Chile in 2001.
The new Hákon has a 75.40-metre overall length, a 16.50-metre breadth and comes with a 2425 cubic metre RSW tank capacity. This is chilled by a FrioNordica refrigeration plant and C-Flow have supplied the vacuum pump system.
The deck is laid out with a comprehensive package of equipment from SeaQuest Systems, including 85-tonne trawl winches and a pair of 110-tonne net drums, as well as a 50-tonne tail line winch, 4-tonne sounder winch and an array of smaller winches.
The net hauler is a 40-tonne unit and there are 40-tonne purse winches, plus 20-tonne endwire, 16-tonne floatline and 20-tonne breastline winches. SeaQuest also supplied the pair of 4t/13m knuckleboom cranes and a pair of net cranes, as well as the 20-inch fish pumps.
Hákon’s owners opted for a Wärtsilä propulsion package, with a 5200kW 8V31 main engine driving a 4000mm diameter propeller via a reduction gearbox with take-me-home functionality and managed by Wärtsilä’s ProTouch propulsion control system. There’s a 3200kW shaft generator, plus 940kWe and 550kWe Caterpillar auxiliary engines.
The 950kW and 700kW thrusters are from Brunvoll.
Accommodation on board Hákon is for up to 15 persons.
