The value of Iceland’s seafood exports totalled ISK29.30 billion last month, according to official figures. This represents a 5% increase compared to February last year, despite a reduction in the volume of fishmeal exports.
The increase is primarily in fresh products, exports of which were valued at ISK7.50 billion in February, while the export values of salted and dried products hit ISK3.10 billion – close to double the figure for February last year.
Exports of fish oil were valued at ISK3.90 billion, a third up on the February 2023 figures, while the value of exported fishmeal was down 52%.
Export values for frozen fillets increased 5% over the sme period last year, and the ‘other seafood products’ category, which includes capelin roe, is up 41%. At the same time, there has been an 8% drop in the values for wholefrozen fish and a 3% reduction in shrimp export values.
