Bulgarian fisherman Emil Milev has added another trawler to the three he already has fishing for sprat, red mullet, rapana and turbot in the Black Sea, acquiring extra capacity to register the new boat.
The 69gt Lefer is 90% new, according to Emil Milev. The boat is 23.40 metres overall with a 5.70 metre beam, and has been completely renovated over the last two years, with a new 389kW main engine and hydraulic deck machinery.
This is the largest boat in the Lavrak fleet. The others are all 16 metre trawlers, all of which Emil Milev built himself, starting with Lavrak which started his career as a skipper-owner.
Lefer fishes from Pomorie on the northern side of Burgas Bay and will alternate pelagic trawls and beam trawl gear, focusing for most of the year on pelagic species such as sprat.
‘The plan is to concentrate on pelagic species using more selective fishing gears, and to land the best quality fish we can,’ he said.
