The Faroe Islands and Iceland have agreed on reciprocal access and opportunities for fisheries in 2024.
As in the previous year, Faroese vessels have opportunities for demersal and pelagic fisheries in Icelandic waters, and the Icelandic pelagic fleet has access to the Faroese EEZ for blue whiting and Atlanto-Scandian herring. Iceland also gets a 1300 tonne allowance of mackerel from the Faroe Islands.
This year the Faroese demersal fleet has 5600 tonnes of groundfish in Icelandic waters, including 2400 tonnes of cod and 400 tonnes of tusk.
The Faroese fleet maintains its 5% share of the capelin quota, although this is capped at 30,000 tonnes.
