The launch of factory trawler Prion marks a significant milestone for the Nodosa shipyard. The new trawler for the Petrel Fishing Company is now being outfitted at the yard’s dock, with delivery scheduled to take place after the summer.
The 85-metre, 14-metre breadth Prion is one of the new generation of trawlers built to operate in the South Atlantic, and has bene ordered by the Petrel Fishing Company in the Falkland Islands, which is a joint venture with the Vigo-based Pescapuerta Group.
The design draws on features of freezer trawler Falcon, delivered more than a year ago to the same owners. This includes an inverted bow designed to provide excellent seakeeping qualities and to provide an economically optimised hull configuration. Throughout the design process the focus has been on energy efficiency, clean operation and comfort on board.
Now that Prion is in the water, Periera Group’s Argos Berbés is the next to be launched for outfitting, and this trawler is designed to operate on the same fisheries as Prion.
Nodosa is also busy with the construction of New Zealand trawler Voyager, still in its early stages, as well as with repair and maintenance of a variety of trawlers and tuna vessels – plus the ongoing lengthening work on NAFO trawler Eirado do Costal.
