The Reimerswaal Shipyard at Hansweert in the Netherlands is relocating to a new site, having outgrown its present location.
The new yard is to be built on the site of the old Zalco factory in the Seeland Seaport in Vlissingen, where there are 300 metres of quayside and a 9-metre depth of water available, plus the yard’s 108 and 120 metre docks will be relocated to the new site.
The Province of Zeeland’s MP, Carla Schönknecht, was present for the opening ceremony as the first pile was driven into the ground. The construction phase of the shift to Vlissingen is expected to take 300 days and includes the dismantling and re-use of the old Olau Line superstructure, while the terminal’s pontoon and access bridge will be retained for access to the Vlissingen docks.
The move to larger premises provides opportunities for the maintenance and repair yard to expand its activities, boosting the region’s manufacturing base, as well as strengthening the Zeeland maritime and offshore cluster.
