The Danish authorities are set to inject DKK300 million into the development of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in 2024, including efforts to bolster the green transition.
Funds come from the Danish Sea, Fisheries and Aquaculture programme and the programme is part-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, in addition to domestic funding, and extends over the period 2021-27.
The distribution of funds from the Marine, Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme in 2024 ensures that all 12 grant schemes that were opened in the period 2021-2023 will also be continued in 2024. By the end of 2023 , support for 30 projects for a total of DKK110 million has been granted under schemes to promote a green transition within fisheries and aquaculture.
‘I am pleased that a political decision has now been made to allocate funds from the Sea, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund in 2024. It is important for the industry to be able to continue to move ambitiously forward on the green agenda, so that we ensure a competitive and climate- and environment-friendly fishing and aquaculture sector in the future,’ said Christian Vig Houe, deputy director of the Danish Fisheries Agency, commenting that the Danish Fisheries Agency has scheduled meetings to inform stakeholders of the specific application rounds.
‘The decision also means that we continue to support the collection of knowledge about the impact of fishing on the marine environment as well as growth and development in the coastal areas. To the benefit of both the industry and a Denmark in better balance.’
