According to the news report fishing voyage of fishing vessel Anna Mary has been terminated as the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous boarded the vessel about 30 miles off the coast of Montauk, N.Y. It is said that the fishing vessel, Anna Mary, was returning to Montauk after fishing for lobster when the Vigorous crew boarded the vessel. The boat had about 500 pounds of lobster and 500 pounds of crab on board. The boarding team inspected the boat for safety and examined the catch to ensure it was legal size.
The Coast Guard was determined the vessel was operating without a valid federal lobster permit and was missing the master’s operator permit so the crew was ordered to stop fishing in federal waters. Cmdr. Greg Burg, commanding officer of the Vigorous explained that America’s fisheries are a precious resource and it is our duty to ensure that we sustain them by enforcing federal fisheries regulations.
Burg also informed that environmental protection is a primary mission for the Coast Guard along with law enforcement, national defense, and search and rescue. Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous is a 210-foot cutter home ported in Cape May, N.J. The cutter is being operated by the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Reliance from Kittery, Maine.
