Danish tech company Carsoe has orders for seven shrimp processing systems for coastal trawlers in Canada, with more to come.
These initial seven orders are being delivered to members of ACPG, a Canadian association of fishing boat owners in the Quebec. The vessels are all in the 20-24 metre size bracket and work trips of around five days.
The seven shrimp boat customers all see benefits in investing in a more automated shrimp line, designed to make production more efficient. Included in the shrimp lines are infeed conveyor, by-catch separator, control conveyor, and batch scale for industrial shrimp. When the equipment is installed on board, it streamlines production, increases capacity, and improves working environment by reducing the level of manual labour required.
‘We are very much looking forward to having our boats automated, so that we can achieve a more future-proof fishing with focus on higher product quality, improved production flow, better working environment onboard, and more transparency of the load,’ said Dan Dupuis, owner of fishing vessel Emilien D.
‘Carsoe has received these seven orders due to their high level of service, flexible approach, and the fact that they understand and support the fishermen’s situation.’
The by-catch separator is of paramount importance in increasing production capacity by automating and speeding up the sorting process. The machine separates small fish from shrimp by utilising the principle that fish and shrimp have different adhesions. So fish are transported upwards, while the shrimp slide back down the conveyor belt where they continue for further handling.
The batch scale ensures direct filling of shrimp into sacks, and after automatic weighing, the sacks go directly into the hold. This provides the crew with clear documentation of the exact contents of the hold.
