The innovative EcoFive factory trawler to be built at Westcon for fishing company Bluewild will be outfitted with a processing deck from Skaginn 3X.
The concept behind the EcoFive trawler is for catches to be transferred directly to storage tanks below the waterline where to be kept alive and in perfect condition before being routed to the processing area. A system of overpressure release is used to bring the live catch to Skaginn 3X’s processing line on the factory deck for producing fillets, loins, centre pieces, tails, and bellies from whitefish. The layout also includes production for cooked, single-frozen consumer shrimp, or block-frozen industrial shrimp for shore production.
Bluewild’s concept is one of those nominated for Nor-Fishing Foundation Innovation Award 2022, to be chosen at the exhibition next week.
‘This agreement marks a turning point for us,’ said Ragnar A. Guðmundsson, Skaginn 3X’s Director of Sales for Scandinavia and Europe, who has led the project from Skaginn 3X end from the beginning.
‘We have worked closely with the Bluewild team for the last two years. After many meetings and much research, the team effort paid off and we will deliver a new and exciting onboard processing solution that harmonises really well with their strategy. Our onboard processing system fits incredibly well with the principle of sustainable fishing, maximum product utilisation and increased product and by-product value. It’s an incredible opportunity to be chosen as the fish factory supplier for such an innovative project.’
He commented that the focus is on quality and maximum product utilisation, with every fish segment receiving top treatment throughout the process, from filleting to frozen product.
‘In addition, the system’s full product utilisation methods are designed to deliver maximum by-product value, that means every part of the fish is processed for human consumption. We’re honoured that the customer has chosen our company for this project and very proud to be a part of this group.’
