Pelagic trawler Antarctic, built for the Fiskebas Fishing Company in Shetland, has been undergoing trials, following the new vessel’s recent christening at the Zamakona shipyard’s quayside in Bilbao.
Trials are taking place ahead of the new pelagic vessel’s handover and the delivery trip to Shetland.
Antarctic measures 69.60 metres overall, with a 15.20 metre breadth and has a 2000m3 capacity in its RSW tanks. A strong emphasis during the design process has been placed on ensuring the best possible flow through the tanks as a key element of ensuring catch quality.
With accommodation on board for a crew of up to 14, Antarctic is built to a Skipsteknisk design – as was its predecessor. This isn’t the first time Zamakona has built sophisticated pelagic vessels – as recent deliveries include the innovative Danish purser-trawler Isafold and Shetland pelagic vessel Adenia.
This is the first time the yard has built to a Skipsteknisk design.
